DEFCON 28 – A Deep Dive on Delay Functions !

In the DEFCON 28, Tejaswa Rastogi and myself teamed up to present our research on integrating a new kind of cryptography powered randomness for radical markets blending RANDAO and Verifiable Delay Functions (VDF) to prevent DoS and DDoS attacks on Ethereum 2.0 beacon chains. This was inspired by our work in StarkWare Veedo Streak Hackathon earlier this year. Today we are continuing this work in EPIC Knowledge Society in a project known as ‘TemereNet’. We have also recently integrated VDF powered decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) contracts using the Veedo Beacon Contracts created by StarkWare into our FusionLedger specification for emerging and exponential use cases in electronic auctions, electronic pricing, electronic invoicing networks, electronic voting etc. Please connect with us if you would like to understand more about the power of cryptography and consensus in creating radical markets powered by decentralisation.

Algorand – A Blockchain Protocol with Random Algorithms and Dynamic Crypto Economics

Dear All, I would like to share an introductory video on Algorand protocol that I have recorded for the recently concluded India Dapp Fest. In this video we are talking about the main cryptographic and crypto-economic concepts powering this protocol.

It is a pragmatic protocol towards achieving #BlockchainScalability in a cost effective manner. It is leveraging randomness based algorithms ( that is why it is called ‘Algo-Rand’ in the place of famous and historic ‘Proof of Work’. It has constructed a ‘Pure Proof of stake’ using verifiable random functions (VRF). This protocol is a convergence of a lot of advanced engineering techniques like key management demon, REST based web services etc. It is designed by the inventor of #ZeroKnowledgeProof, Professor Silvio Micali himself.

During the initial interaction itself TechAthena community set their expectations clear. They are looking for a session on Blockchain technology beyond a product pitch or a corporate narrative. Hence I did a deep dive on Blockchain Scalability techniques from the vantage point of defining scalability of distributed systems with a specific focus on decentralised scaling.

I could lay out the most prominent Blockchain scalability techniques such as StateChannels, Sidechains, Offchain computation, Sharding, Replicated State Machines, Directed Acyclic Graphs, Gossip Protocols, variants of voting consensus algorithms, vertical and horizontal scaling etc. My presentation from this session is uploaded to SlideShare for further reviews and references. During my preparations for the webinar, I could realise that fundamental postulates such as CAP theorem, Partial Synchronous processors etc. lay at the bottom of the Blockchain Scalability Constraints. It was a clear realisation that Consensus algorithms are not the bottlenecks in Blockchain scalability. Blockchain Trilemma coined by Vitalik Buterin underlined the need for factoring in Scalability trade offs in conjunction with decentralisation and security. I could easily comprehend the fact that in the contours of Blockchain, Decentralisation, Transparency and Scalability are the most important notions.

For a Blockchain evangelist, security and privacy gets redefined within the terrains of transparency. It is quite an interesting dimension. I could also connect with the scale cube defined in the book ‘Art of Scalability’ along with the Blockchain Scalability Trilemma and CAP theorem.

A Developer Weekend Session on Smart Contract Patterns and Blockchain Security Techniques

Designing an Open Innovation Ecosystem through Lean, Agile, Exponential Methods

Digital Mastery for the future generation of Managers : Key take aways from the SCIT Education Model

I had a chance of moderating the national seminar organised by Symbiosis Centre for Information Technologies ( SCIT ). The seminar was titled ‘Amalgamating IOT and Big Data’ – Boon or Bane for Data Analytics. It was an amazing experience to see the curiosity among the management graduate students on finer aspects of technology ethics, technical architecture, business models, social aspects etc. I could see that SCIT is actively inspiring their students to explore the consultative aspects of Digital Technology in depth. While interacting with the aspiring entrepreneurs of SCIT I could understand that this institution is carving out a new generation of managers who does not loose their passion for technology in their pursuit for business acumen.

This is definitely a recommended pedagogic model for management education in the coming days. I have shared my perspectives on the management education and the SCIT experience in the following video. Looking forward to your views and comments.

Quantum Computing Architectures : A quick reference compilation for software engineers

When we enter the realm of quantum computing from the theoretical foundations, we encounter the enchanting world of complex algebra and quantum physics. The symbols and notions may look quite bewildering for a software engineer. I have encountered this during my numerous sessions on Quantum Computing for Software Engineers and Enterprise Architects. Based on this experience, I have put together a collection of essential building blocks of a Quantum Computer from a few useful architectural diagrams. Most of these diagrams are quite accessible and available for everyone in the internet. I have organised them in a logical and structured manner. These diagrams provide a layer wise and component based view of Quantum Computing Architectures. This is presented recently in the Women Who Code #WWC #Bangalore Chapter MeetUp held in VMWare on November 2018 for an engaging and interactive audience.
